    Reddit moment.

You see a tragedy where a crew and entire family with kids gets turned into char and your knee-jerk comment is “Weeell, were any of those people financially successful? Because if they were, that would turn this tragedy into a wholesome moment 🤗”

This is not reddit. We are past the age when it would be cringe. It is class war. You are just joining the hypercapitalist team. Your team wants billionaires to slaughter lesser humans with use of megacorp demonic entities, and the other side wants humans to not be slaughtered at all.

billionaires have no empathy so its not outrageous to expect this type of perspective for them.

        billionaires have no empathy

Source? Does someone’s net-worth going from $999M to $1B automatically make them a sociopath?

Ok that is a little unfair of me. I do get where you’re coming from, that billionaires tend to do want what’s best for them. And because of their wealth, things they do have a lot of impact on regular people. Impact which may very well be negative (as well as positive, nothing is black and white).

it does come off as sociopathic/selfish when their actions impact us negatively. But it does not come from a place of hatred for humanity, I don’t believe it. In my opinion, they’re regular people who have a huge egos, and are trying to shape the world in their own vision, which people might not really want. A sort of humanity’s savior complex.

I mean look at this comment section, people invoking threats of violence and calling for mass killings of the rich and their families. It’s individuals with their own perception of justice and fairness seeking to shape the world in their own vision, to make it “better” in their eyes. Only difference is that they lack influence power, but besides that, is it really any different from what people on top are doing currently?

P.s.: Just to make it clear, I am not defending the 1% class, no one person should ever hold that much power/wealth. But calling for violence and rejoicing in death? No, that is savage and animalistic, and I must believe we are better than that by now.

I think you’re missing my point. I’m not calling for violence or rejoicing in death. This was tragic, especially for the kids.

I lack empathy for the parents specifically. They chose to vacation in the Bahamas on a private jet while billions struggle to afford basic necessities. That choice is what they are and it signals they prioritize their comfort over collective well-being, including economic fairness and environmental sustainability.

Let them have their ego inflation but let it come with consequences. If we condemn wealth concentration but ignore its human cost (emissions, inequality), then yes, we’re being hypocritical about who deserves empathy.

The disconnect isn’t personal hatred and instead it’s recognizing that their lifestyle choices directly harm people like us. A commercial flight crash is a different story entirely. When the wealthy opt out of shared realities and consume resources at our expense, expecting full sympathy seems to contradict holding them accountable for how they’ve built their power.

they prioritize their comfort over collective well-being, including economic fairness and environmental sustainability.

By that logic, majority should give up their comfort and wealth for the sake of collective, because there will always be someone doing worse than others. Except you’d be hard-pressed to convince any regular persons to do so. So why should the family in the airplane? Plus take a look at this:

According to his LinkedIn profile, he founded Retention.com in January 2020 and said he grew the company to $20 million in annual recurring revenue within 3 1/2 years, without outside funding. (Source)

They only just now made came into moderate, self-made wealth. Should they immediately give it up? And I question the magnitude of the negative impact their little vacation has had on us to be honest. Just some food for thought, not every issue has to devolve into a “us vs them”. I implore anyone reading to always be critical of any calls for such way of thinking.

You’re right to reject moral panic, but you’re softening the real question: what happens when we normalize opting out of consequences?

Regarding double standards: everyone needs dignity. But choosing a private jet isn’t just about comfort. It’s an active choice to avoid the systems that bind the rest of us. It’s not about judging their worth; it’s about recognizing they’re living in a layer where choices carry no public cost.

One vacation isn’t the apocalypse. But patterns compound. This lifestyle sends a message that accountability isn’t necessary if you can afford to skip it. When enough people do, the systems holding us together start to fray and that doesn’t benefit anyone.

The crash is tragic. But ask yourself why “empathy” feels automatic for some and complicated for others. It’s not about hatred; it’s about recognizing that their choices land on our shoulders. Its our air, our tax base, our shared infrastructure. Empathy becomes complicated when someone’s “freedom” requires your sacrifice.

Worthy sacrifice for whom? How hard is it to understand that if 1 billionaire dies, another one takes their place immediately. Billionaires are not root cause of all worlds woes, but rather it’s a symptom of a broken system that allows for such extreme accumulation of wealth. Inheritance should be abolished or at least have a max cap, but people will always cry it infringes on their freedom…

Yes they are. They are literally bribing the politicians into making life harder for everyone else. Then, when someone tries to ease the suffering by getting get a reasonable and minor socialism (e.g., universal health-insurance), they drop bankers’ trucks against it while demonizing a scape goat of a minority that does no harm (see transgender people). They are literally repeating pre-revolutionary France. That is why people cheer when their planes crash.

Billionaires are like a cancer, they seek to grow grow grow without foresight on how that would affect their own environment in which they thrive. But what caused said cancer in the first place? And once again, the system allowed for them to accumulate enough wealth and power, and even still the system allows them to use that wealth and power for their own gain. Everything functions as designed in a capitalistic laissez faire system, that is until a critical point when it won’t.

“It’s a cancer, so we should find a way to deal with the genetic cause of the cancer in our patient rather than cutting it out?”

Thank fucking Christ you’re not an oncologist, because your own metaphor shows why you have to get rid of the billionaires immediately. First, cut it out if you can. Second, if it starts coming back, treat it with poison and hope the body doesn’t die. Third, find a way to treat the genetic defect or environmental factor which caused it in the first place. You have to do all of those, but the first one is objectively more pressing.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted bro. You’re exactly right. Billionaires are like a hydra. We have a system that breeds them, cranks them out, gives them safe harbor in the highest levels of government. Same thing with fascists. We (the people) need to vote them out, put much tighter walls around money and government … but its not the individuals per se, it’s the whole rigged system that needs to be fixed (or chucked), so that we don’t keep breeding people like billionaires.

How long are you going to watch election after election, the dems stall until Republicans get to power again, before you realize that no, you cannot vote them out?

They are always looking out for their own interests, when will you realize that?

            Billionaires are like a hydra.

so that we don’t keep breeding people like billionaires.

Have you met billionaires? I have. They’re just normal ass parents but with more money and less morals. They want us to fight the system because that’s how they keep hoarding their wealth and passing it down.

Billionaires by in large, inherit their money from billionaire/millionaire parents.

Imagine if we were willing to kill all the confederates kids, all the Nazis kids? Do you think those movements would be as powerful today?

This comunity is so beyond saving. Even if we turned the world into a utopia tomorrow, i wouldn’t want any of these psychopaths anywhere close to me. You are part of the problem if you celebrate deaths.

Yeah, I feel like I’m going crazy. These people have very skewed morals and perspective on life. Guess that’s what happens when one sits online all day and only brews in hate.

10 innocent people to one billionaire death is an absolutely steal compared to how many people each billionaire kills every year

      edit: y’all missing the point

I say that because it’s true, with no comment of my own feelings on the matter.

I bet you’d love to be one of those 10 yourself if such a “steal” deal were to come up.

But it shows lack of humanity. I’m pretty utilitarian, but to treat human life as an equation where removal of one human is worth 10 innocents. This road only leads to depression and nihilism and that’s no way to live.
