well yes, it’s why I have a Chinese car, they don’t share my data with my government who are the ones that may want to hurt me.

This stuff is why I’m apprehensive of buying anything remotely new.

The problem is, I also don’t want to burn prehistoric forests to travel.

So this sits in opposition to the fact that I want to travel around using the light from the sun as my primary energy source.

For those that can’t read between the lines, I want an EV, that I can charge by solar.

I am also aware of the slate truck. I have thoughts on it, but it’s worthy of consideration.

How realistic this is really depends on the individual, but converting dead ICE vehicles to EV is a thing. Easier on some cars than others, but old body on frame stuff is pretty darn straightforward (not to mention cool). Early 2000’s Ford Ranger + around 10k USD and maybe a hundred hours of tinkering would get you a ride imo both cooler and more practical than anything you can buy off the lot

What the fuck isn’t? Doesn’t even need to be connected to your WiFi. Devices can have cellular modems built into them now.

Cupra and VW in Australia offer no connected services, it’s by far the biggest complaint from their users :).

Toyota similarly, but they had a recall for a software upgrade recently so you needed to take it back in for a day Of course they maybe recording stuff and then do data dump when you get it serviced

No shit, we’ve always known this? I just can’t figure out how to stop it.

Thanks, but that guy doesn’t sound like he knows what he was talking about.

He literally admitted that he had to get “information” from grok, and he never fact checked it.

There was no attempt to find or disable cameras, microphones, seat pressure sensors, etc. Those cars he “disabled” are probably still collecting all of the data and storing it locally. Just waiting for a dealer to plug it in to upload everything.

We really need just one person with car hacking skills to document how to disable the sensors (and then do a forensic analysis to confirm the data is no longer being collected). Then we’ll all have at least one privacy car.

You could just pull out the LTE/IoT module, and disconnect the service…

Whether that will have major down sides for the usability of the vehicle is the big question.

        No, that won’t work.

Instead it will just store all the data locally and then upload it once it gets the airgap broken when the mechanic plugs it in.

The only safe solution here is to remove the sensors that collect the data. But I haven’t yet found aftermarket guides on how to do this with any major new car.

      Completely astounded.

Who could have thought that a paying customer would become the product they’re selling to someone else.

    Not my 20-year-old car.

Without regulation, this will continue, and get worse. Remember to vote in every election you can, both local, and national.

I really hope the Slate truck is everything they say it will be. Its lack of spyware is a pretty compelling reason to buy one.

“Sharing” implies something much less predatory than the actual relationship.

Let me go bring a gun to a bank and see if they’d like to share any of their money with me.

What they’re doing is more akin to rerouting the bank’s funds to your account, and buying off your choice of those in gov’t to make your rapidly growing scam “legal”. 😅

Big Tech companies think they have solved advertising with infinite data. According to them, privacy can go fuck itself.

The irony is, you can try and advertise but I stopped paying attention a long time ago. Besides, I’m too busy spending all my money on living, fuel, and food. Good Luck Have Fun. And my cars are all over 20 years old. GG
