Technology@piefed.world•GrapheneOS user reported to authorities for using GrapheneOS
2·18 hours agoApparently PlayStation/Sony recently introduced a company called Yoti for age verification and this individual was trying to verify and it failed multiple times. When they reached out to Sony they were forwarded to Yoti who informed them they had reported their “suspicious behavior” to the authorities and referenced their OS being graphene as the cause. I’m still trying to figure out the location / country of th incident but Yoti itself is a British company headquartered in London.
You could always fork them. That’s one of the wonderful things about Linux and FOSS. Straight copy the code to a new project. That may be beyond your current skill set but it’s always an option.
I mean you only have three paths really. Distro-hop until you find something else. Start with a pre-built like mint or fedora and make it what you want or build from scratch.
I distro hopped for a long time, then ended up going through the basic arch install one weekend and omg it’s easy now with their archinstall script, I’ve gotten lazy and just use Fedora.
Tldr: I suggest investing the time to do the arch install on your side machine just as a learning experience, particularly by hand and without the script. It will be invaluable to you not just as a Linux user but as a computer user. Even if you end up on another OS you’ll be more capable and comfortable with the terminal. I really can’t emphasize how useful that will be and what doors it may unlock for you.
Small example is all the poorly written yet functional bash scripts I write for myself. How I used wget -r to scrape my university’s website and made a database of old solutions to homework and exams for myself.

1·2 days agoYou’re picking up what I’m putting down. You may also like other epistemological arguments like Chung Tzu’s butterfly, Boltzmann brains, last Thursdayism, Plato’s cave, and so on. Most knowledge, including scientific knowledge is axiomatic aka built from axioms / assumptions. Like I’m assuming the time before now actually happened and it’s not the case that reality came into being as is just now.

1·2 days agoYeah Richard Dawkins original definition or concept of the word meme would more accurately describe what he’s getting at but the concept is somewhere between these two.
Lol had to look that one up myself, it’s how the author wrote it. Funny enough you said what the dictionary said. Language is an ever changing and morphing object. Any attempt to keep it static would be like trying to keep the ocean still by grasping at it with your bare hands.
Thanks, I’ve got tons of these saved. Just another refugee from reddit and looking to build a community here. I’ll slowly share more. That said you’re free to explore Vimeo yourself, there’s lots of gold in those hills.

9·2 days agoIt’s an intriguing experiment. It works far better than I expected. I would have preferred a system that actually creates code on the fly. It’s a bit like the Turing test part two but for reality, in this case in the very narrow experience of a desktop PC.

Videos@lemmy.world•VibeOS - AI generated OS that generates as you use it
1·3 days agoI was hoping more so for a version that actually writes the code. It’s an interesting experiment and honestly worked better than other attempts I’ve seen. If this approach towards software and videogames becomes quite flawless, that is to a degree someone couldn’t tell the difference between running a traditional OS and this then that would be definitely intriguing. Seems like a new level to the Turing test, the Turing simulation or something to that effect.

2·3 days agoActually now that it’s being brought up it would be interesting to see the allotment of funds and compute in relationship to types of neural nets. I really can’t confirm or deny what you are saying. That said different labs seem to have taken different approaches.

3·3 days agoYes and no. Some extremely impressive things have been accomplished already. Alpha fold was very successful just to name one smaller and older project. The recent proof of the planar unit distance problem is very notable. The list goes on and on. There’s some legitimate gold in those neural network hills, it’s just not consistent.

14·3 days agoIf all this data center building and investment is a bust aka their next super model doesn’t deliver on all the promises they’ve made it’s going to make the 2008 financial crisis look cute.

7·3 days agoScared they’re totally leveraged and people will call their bluff before their super compute is built or the super compute will have diminished returns aka the investment is a wash. If this goes bust it will make the 2008 global financial crisis look cute.
Ah I see what happened, yeah I updated the post. I would say it’s moreso artistic but if you think that assessment is wrong I’ll kill the post and put in the correct sub.
The web interface allows you to put the video link and set the image for the post. That seems to have caused a conflict.

Well hopefully Khanna and Massie can squash this on the house floor. At minimum we all see whose political careers should be cut short. I think by now it’s pretty bipartisan how much Americans dislike the influence of Israel over American politics. If it was the Kremlin or Bejing with this much influence I think people could better react.
