I thought the Arwen change improved her character. Otherwise she’s mostly just Aragorn’s dream crush.
Arwen was basically an object in the book, so I think it was a good adaptation.
Please go back in time and tell that to the chuds who got her ousted from the Helms Deep battle.
That was probably a good call though. Helm’s deep is where Aragorn starts learning to be a king, and is the rise of man. Having Arwen there would distract from key character development, arguably any elves at all showing up was a distraction.
Aragorn’s older step-sister dream crush
hey now, she’s only his first cousin sixty-ish times removed
How do you think the elves became elves?
I don’t really mind it when a film combines characters, especially for a franchise as extensive as LoR. There’s no way they could develop every minor character and still keep up the pacing for a film, let alone hire an actor for each character. I consider it a good compromise.
Doubly so since it gives a woman a modicum of agency in a series where they basically have none.
(I do appreciate that Eowyn is portrayed as struggling for self-determination and that the fantasy setting generally echoes medieval Europe and its social mores, but even then, her portrayal fails the Bechdel test in both book and film.)
Glorfindel was not minor. Take it back!
He must have been a minor at some point
Deep in The Silmarillion, no doubt. Ctrl+F if you’ve the free time. 😜
he’s first mentioned covering the retreat of Turgon back to Gondolin to keep the city’s location secret, during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, or Battle of Unnumbered Tears, in the year 472 of the First Age
Ah, the impulsiveness of youth.
More free time than I, for sure. 😉
Elves are born as adults.
An adult below 18k years. Checkmate, Maiar!

I’ve read the books. Tom was completely irrelevant and leaving him out of the movies was the right move.
“Irrelevant”? Feh.Tom was the only one that flipped off the war (that whatever “higher power” wanted to see their Maiar suckups & watered-down Quendi struggle through, etc.) to instead go fuck & frolic with his river nymph wife.
IMHO, if they left him (them) in, more people might’ve been inspired to do similar IRL… Can’t have that, now can we? 😅😶
Tom is the one who gave Merry the anti-Angmar sword that dispelled the Witch King’s invulnerability.
Arwen was the manager who took credit?
Even her body double gets just a quick line in the post credits. 😋
If the Bible combined three Marys and two Jesuses, Jackson can merge a few characters and increase the screen-time of an incredibly gorgeous actor.
Sorry. What were we talking about again?
Glorfindel and Cirdan
Two legendary and extremely powerful beings reduced to silent background characters in a single scene.
