I feel like both positions are wrong (and obvious attempts to either make this product more impressive than it currently is or avoid meaningful regulations). There is not currently evidence that LLMs pose such an existential threat to humanity, but that’s not to say there won’t be.
A much bigger threat as it stands is these companies having such terribly safety processes that their technology keeps acting in unexpected ways. These are not companies that should have a financial stake in energy infrastructure, not to mention the further consolidation of power by these douchebag billionaires.

Now, I’d agree with you, but that would leave us just two options again. I’d prefer there to be more competition, not less. AMD isn’t our friend any more than nvidia, they’ll raise prices even more when there’s essentially no competition.
with nvidia gone there will absolutely be room for other competitors to rise.
