  • I love how short sighted they are.

That might not be the case.

Ever since Windows 8, MS seems to be shifting the bar for what users will keep using Windows each version. This should get all but the most compliant ones out of their system.

Next, they might have multiple time bombs in the Linux ecosystem. xz might have just been a POC.

So what we might have here:

    1. Keep all easily surveillable people on the system and tighten the leashes.
    2. Use the multi-point security compromisations all over the Linux ecosystem at opportune moments before they are caught, robbing the users of their systems in some shape or form.
      • I feel like they might have had to speed up their plans due to the reduced control they would have from RISC V proliferation.
    3. – a. Use the opportunities from step 2 to neutralise HVTs and do whatever they want from those who become powerless (jobless/moneyless).

  • I’m pretty sure that won’t be the case.
Their real intent won’t be to enforce it on self-installable systems, but more like, to enable companies to make that thing mandatory on systems that they sell.
And since the companies want to do so, they will use it to create a “verification” system that helps them feed people’s everyday face data to AI, to enable doing studies on people’s face changes depending upon various stimuli that said companies will be collectively applying to those people.

    e.g.

    • if you have a period and it is showing on your face, then the next time you need to pick up your phone, the AI will know you have one.
    • you got a tattoo anywhere visible, now they know that
    • they know the rate at which your facial hair grows and how much you get it cut, so when you open your phone after shaving/trimming/salon-stuff, the company now has that in its database

This is corresponding to PayPal et al. starting with requiring a selfie to “verify” that it’s you.
Well guess what happens when one of those AI companies gets an order from someone that wants to systematically frame you for paying for something illegal via PayPal? They get the highest quality AI selfie generated such that even your mother won’t know it isn’t you.
Oh and don’t go on saying they won’t want to do that. Cell Phone service providers will make fake claims of their customers having activated VAS, just for a few extra pennies a month (this is already happening, even without AI).
