Carney has eroded environmental and agricultural protections, First Nations sovereignty, and any hope of a break from privatized extraction of public resources for the foreseeable future. I am going to be honest, I don’t think settlers deserve that kind of grace. Most of them are rewarded for being ignorant on this topic both because it keeps them politically unmotivated to challenge the state, and because it appeals to their desire for comfort with the morality of this way of life; which a gracious reading of this person’s comments would exemplify.
Most Canadians don’t want to be bad people, and so presume that they’d only be a bad person if they started wanting to be without ever considering if they are one passively. Unsurprisingly, this also means many or most make sense of colonialism with the language and knowledge that colonialism has given them, which leads to the sort of appropriation and colonization this thread emblemizes.
