Libre Office kept freezing for ten or fifteen seconds every minute or so, no matter what I was doing or not doing with it at the time. Someone in the Linux community told me it could happen and gave me a fix I couldn’t begin to understand before adding that OnlyOffice should give a smoother experience. It does. That’s all i know.

Adding matches is a bit clunky–but it’ll soon know all the ones i need. Otherwise, it’s perfect, thanks a lot!

Also, I installed using the console (the terminal?): I’m excessively proud of myself.

At lunch, can’t test it rn, but it looks perfect.
And (more importantly?), it feels so good to be able to ask and receive help. There might be something about this open source software fad after all. Joke aside, thank you, I can’t wait to dive deeper and learn.

Not sure what an appimage is, but I picked OnlyOffice in what’s called Logithèque in French, and maybe Software manager (or “repository”) in English? Main menu / Administration / Logithèque.
After an in-depth trial of at least 4 minutes, I can say I love it, and it works fine.
You now have the unending gratitude of a random French woman.

I’ll try it asap. Libre Office freezes every minute or so, actually, and not only when I change windows. It’s unusable as is. Thanks for your advice.

Yes. Well no, not yet. To be One of you, I need to say the Sentence:

Now let me tell you why your distro of choice is Not The Right One.

Here. Done. (Phew. I couldn’t list many. I’ve heard of Mint, Fedora, and Pikachu. Even then, Fedora might be a Pokemon, not sure.)

When I feel it’s time to spread my wings. I’m still stuck on Libre Office freezing whenever I ctr-tab between windows. Baby steps, unfortunately.

Nice, thank you!

Lemmy because of the Reddit API debacle.
The Linux community because I’m a far-left activist who needs to get away from BigCorpo out of general principle, but I’d been using Windows since 3.0 and it was daunting.

So, in a week or so?

Central France. You coming?

Sometimes I look at my life and I feel jealous of myself. Tbh I deliberately moved here (the boonies, and a leftist / alt-culture hotspot of grassroot community living), and it has its cons, but… Next week a wool felter is taking me foraging wild plants to teach me basket weaving, then I’m teaching her the basics of fermenting food (for booze, taste, or preservation), while my 10yo kid is 500km away for her country-wide robotics competition. I’m happily trapped in a caricature.
