MAGA is a classic Cult of Personality. He can get away with saying the insane shit he says, but nobody else can. Most of the time when a MAGA says something crazy, they all hold their breath for a moment, until Trump weighs in, then they know what to believe. It all comes down to him, and if he’s out, his influence will wane.
As long as he’s alive, he can still influence policy, especially if the Dems are in power, like during the Biden presidency. Trump was still the defacto leader of the party, even though he held no office. But he was able to wield power only because MAGA still had the Congressional majorities. If the Dems control the White House AND Congress, then his influence will be minimal. He’ll bark a lot, but few will listen, and those few will have little to no power.
And when he dies, his influence will die with him, and so will MAGA.
