Remember how quickly rivers cleaned up during Covid? Some things would get fixed basically overnight. Deforestation would take a year to resolve the worse of it, a couple of centuries to really get back to pre-agricultural times.

Many habitats are completely fucked because of climate change though. For example, coral reefs likely will not survive except in isolated pockets. And because coral is a keystone species, all of the life that depends on them is also likely fucked.

Life in general will continue, but we are already well down the path of drastically reducing the planet’s biodiversity.

We have been on the path of decreasing biodiversity since Neolithic times. Humans are really good at taming the Earth and killing anything that moves. The most recent episode of the podcast Past Lives interviewing Kyle Harper goes into detail about this if you are interested.

Is this supposed to be apologia for climate change or is it just a not-so-fun fact? In any case, the rate of extinction has increased exponentially since the industrial revolution. Prior extinction rates don’t even register in comparison to now.
