Meet ZimaOS, a Linux-based NAS operating system that simplifies file storage, backups, Docker apps, and home server management.
Stopped using this when they sold or “leaked” my email address
Is it better than TrueNAS, which is now also Linux based, and has built in docker and KVM VMs?
Having read through the article: unlikely for a while, and even then its limited/weak unless you use tgebpaid version
ZimaOS used to be CasaOS. It’s got its perks, but I ran it on powerful hardware and it seemed clunky. It’s been a year or more, and I even paid for the premium version for support and more than 4 HDDs for storage… IMO it needs work. I had over 100TBs of RAID disks I was trying to configure, and scrapped it because I didn’t trust it to not lose data. The web UI would sometimes not be accessible and my SMB shares would not be reachable. Rebooting wouldn’t always fix it either.
Beware! Test thoroughly!
Does anyone have some more information about the technical part? What kind of filesystem support does it use (mdadm+ext4, BTRFS, ZFS, etc.)? Who maintains updates for the Apps? Are they manually maintained by them or do they just reuse what is available on e.g. dockerhub? How does their integrated backup solution work (filesystem or database based, rotation, encryption, etc.).
Their tiemline on their webpage is pretty outdated. But on github you can see that they are actively maintaining it.
Anyone got some real life experience with it?
