The problem with Epic games is that they actually listen to their gaming community… Then purposely do the opposite of what people want. Its an active choice to be a complete piece of shit in every category.

I’ve pivoted to “I can’t even remember when I last bought an Epic developed video game” model.

(…Gears of War before they got spun off, I guess? Dunno.)

I would but I have been doing that for a long time without even trying. I never setup an epic account, don’t want it. Its worse than steam and isn’t DRM free like gog, so why would I want it?

As far as Steam monopoly is not good for anyone, at least they do some things right. Epic is good for weekly free games anyway.

In general yes Monopolies are not good. but the reason Steam gets away being the Monopoly it is simply because the compitetion fails at offering a better reason.

closest I think is GoG but they curate their library so strictly they can’t work as a primary market

Thank you. It’s crazy how many people support a monopoly until it does something they don’t like. Then it’s “where’s the competition? What are my options?” But they killed them and they did it gladly, thinking the monopoly wouldn’t turn on them.

Where are the alternatives to Windows? To Chrome? To Android? Or to Steam?

I’m not aware of any monopolistic behaviors from Valve? Can’t fault them for being successful I guess

GoG has a very limited selection, and their lack of regional pricing makes them an absolute non-starter for most of the world.

Epic is a joke. It took them what, 3 years to implement a shopping cart? Followed by them having to scrap their entire system for a full rebuild because they did such a bad job. I don’t even bother collecting their free games, that’s how little I trust their shit. There’s a non-trivial chance they’ll just close the storefront at some point in the medium future, there’s no way they’re turning a profit on it.

So no, there’s no real alternative.
