Republican California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton is targeting Spanish-speaking voters with an AI-generated ad that shows a caricature of a trans girl playing soccer against high school girls. The ad even features an AI-generated version of his Democratic opponent, Xavier Becerra, taking a policy position that he does not take in real life.

The ad is raising questions about how AI is used both to create problems that don’t exist – the ad used generative AI to portray the trans girl as a much older man pushing cis girls around in a high school soccer game, which doesn’t happen in real life – and to put words in political opponents’ mouths.

My religious mother declares that trans people (and anyone who’s not strictly hetero) is “going against god’s plan for them”. Arguments that perhaps god made them that way are rebuffed with, “that’s not how that works”.

There’s no logic, just dogma and hate. It’ll never be over until empathy wins, and some people would rather that never happens

When they put them all in camps and move on to the next group.

It will never stop. Control of sexuality is a fundamental aspect of authoritarian systems, because it creates (a) blackmail (b) transgressive opportunities for the elites © sexual frustration that can be weaponized.

And endless number of types of prejudice and racism was forgotten and moved past because it became irrelevant as social classes transformed entirely. The ones that remain over time does so because of influential people who keep choosing to push for it.

We (humanity/society) haven’t gotten over a single type of bigotry, why would transphobia be the first one?
