Shows whether ‘AI’ is profitable yet or not by listing several companies which are related to, or primarily deal in hardware and software around ‘AI’ and showing their profits and losses.
Can someone point me at an article/book that can ELI5 this whole thing for me?
Who started this AI idea anyway?
Is the government directly supporting it? [Like the Dept of Defense gives contracts to Boeing et al?]
Is the government supporting it indirectly? [Tax credits]
Thank you in advance
Who cares if it’s profitable? Or is everyone suddenly a capitalist and cares deeply about profits?
I’ll keep hating AI even if it turns profitable, just like I currently hate many profitable corporations, industries, and billionaires.
… everyone is a capitalist though. that’s why you need to be equipped with “ai eats up cash”
It’s just an indicator of what to expect. Unless they can significantly lower costs, they will have to up the prices and/or sneak in ads.
They can keep running at a loss for as long as others are willing to burn capital, and so far it seems there are many willing to burn as much capital as it takes to replace as much of the working class as they can
It’s sort of the one thing it’s at least theoretically supposed to do eventually. Otherwise why is everyone lighting money on fire at the altar of the slop machine?
Because line goes up.
Sure, we agree.
However, we thought it moght another good counter argument as to why it’s pointless currently.
who needs profits when you have everyone’s trade secrets and personal confessions flowing in endlessly for some reason
That’s fair.
Unless you’re Nvidia, in which case its only profitable because companies have 100’s of billions of dollars worth of GPUs sitting in warehouses uninstalled and therefore not actually being used for AI.
GPUs that Nvidia gave them the money to buy, as an investment.
When the shovel seller starts giving away all his shovels to the miners, he takes on all the same risks. Those GPUs will be worthless when those companies go belly up, and so will Nvidia’s ownership stakes.
That’s why Nvidia are doing a $235b stock byback.
Yup.
You may have forgotten a link
Hmmm, we think maybe the image overtook it.
Edit: Yep, that was why, should be fixed now. Thanks so much!
No.
