So long story short someone I know is losing their mind over ai and keeps mailing me bits of things they are asking a chatbot about. (End of world, ai solving the economic and ecological problems of the world etc its batshit. ) They asked me what this “code” is. To me, its bullshit and meaningless.

Yup. If you start asking the LLM questions along the lines of “are you a scary sci-fi AI?” it is fairly easy to push it towards RPing as one.
Hell, it’s the “don’t think of a pink elephant” conundrum for people.
“Scary SciFi AI” is now in the chat context for.however many tokens long, and the info will fade away until all that’s left is the output from after it “reads” “scary SciFi AI” in the context.
