Just a friendly reminder that Politico is owned by the same guy who recently gave an award to Peter Thiel.
Two things can be bad at the same time: Teams, Matrix both are terrible imo
Sure thing. But an article with an anonymous source talking negatively in broad terms and without specifics about a software meant to stop reliance on techbros, coming from an outlet with direct ties to said techbros?
For group chats Matrix is only bearable without encryption but that invalidates the whole point of Matrix
“I don’t understand the added value here,” one official wrote on an internal staff message board, seen by POLITICO. Another described the tool as “absolute shit.”
Which is basically the exact sort of reaction you get any time anything changes about any software ever.
I could give my parents new light switches that also make toast and clean the windows, and my dad would complain about them being 0.2cm too narrow.
To summarize: an unnamed official, let’s call him “Brad”, got to participate in a trial for a new sovereign office tool. According to Brad, the new tool was “absolute s—t” and he still prefers working with good ‘ol Teams (cuz ‘reasons’).
Thanks, Brad. And thanks Politico for this entertaining, yet remarkably useless bit of trivia.
It’s not as if Microsoft Teams is not absolute shite
I’m sure Teams is good for something but what that is isn’t obvious. I hate that everything gets pushed to teams. No, I don’t need another fucking channel to check if someone wrote something that might be useful information for me, oh and by the way, we hid the channel that did have the useful information because “fuck you, that’s why”.
Did I mention that I don’t like teams?
If the officials do not see the added value in having sovereign software and infrastructure, I have to seriously doubt their qualification. Sure, Element isn’t perfect but no concrete mention of what isn’t working is made. That’s not very constructive. Software isn’t static. You can change it.
Free software can change. Microsoft Teams can’t, because it’s proprietary and owned by Microsoft. So here comes another benefit for free software. Trash article.
They are citing four unnamed ‘officials’ and there is not a single detail explaining why exactly it is “s–t” …
That’s Axel Springer press to you.
tbf, I think the “officals” wouldn’t be able to elaborate either.
Absolute shit sounds like a big improvement over Teams, I’ll take it!
Reads pretty much like the sh–it Amazon rewiews… 1 star, I have no clue what I bought and how to use it. Also won’t write down any details about what’s wrong with it.
Or “Ever since my grandma bought this toaster, my car ran out of gas (1 star)”
