This has to be one of the dumbest arguments for anarchism I’ve seen. Like, there’s lots of good reasons, this isn’t one of them. Some people would say that the purpose of government is literally to care for others through mechanisms that you don’t understand or can’t know the depth of. Wait, that’s the sole purpose.

Yes, but it is a type of government. A voluntary, non-hierarchical one.

I’m not sure how you can type that so confidently with late-stage capitalism destroying everything around us. “Some people” can say and believe whatever they want about the purpose of government, but its actual function in the world across time—especially in modern times—has clearly been at odds with the proposition of “caring for others”.

The world’s biggest corporations are stealing our data and privacy for profit while governments around the world legitimize it. We have an ongoing genocide in the middle east, opposition to which is treated as radical and illegitimate. Russia is grinding its own people into meat just to grab another piece of territory in Ukraine. Next year, there will be work requirements in the US for those on Medicaid, while universal healthcare is called unthinkable. Material conditions are so bad that we’re seeing a global rise in fascism: an ideology literally built on an “us vs them” mentality.

The argument isn’t perfect, but “one of the dumbest”? It’s a response to the very real state of things.

Yeah that does sound like an anarchist. I’d point out that institutions can make arrangements were you can work with them at your choice and on your grounds and that institution hopes you do it. That institution could be the government
