If you can’t have the conversation, don’t go after largely unrelated things because it’s just unproductive and will lead to people ultimately not trusting you to actually mean what you say(and they’d be right). Besides, the lesson is far more impactful if you say that someone is allowed to think something is cool but that doesn’t take the place of an excuse to support it and the people behind it.
