If you’re still making use of play store apps, I quite like Quick Cursor. I’m on a Pixel 8 Pro and I miss my 3A.

I’ve given this app a go and like it. I’ve been on the search for a replacement to obsidian, but haven’t landed on anything yet. Is built in sync on the roadmap?

I like Obsidian storing everything as markdown files that I can edit outside of the application. I’m not so much a fan of the do-it-yourself obsidian live sync because it’s a fairly fragile setup and involves updating plugins and settings across multiple vaults and multiple devices.

Affine and Trillium go the database route. They are both decent (though affine handles tables poorly, while trillium’s mobile PWA UI has navigation issues), but with both I have real difficulty importing an Obsidian vault keeping the folder structure and images intact.

I would totally expect this of Boox, but am curious to know the examples. Do you have any you could share?

Oh, that’s a hot tip. I didn’t know the watches could handle tap to pay independent of the phone.

I’ve taken many steps away from Google that were not “painless”.

There are always trade offs.

I would love to main a Linux phone, as I’m sure many here would. But the present trade offs are too great.

NFC payments are extremely convenient, especially when managing multiple cards - some of which are virtual. It’s a service I had, then went without for awhile, and then appreciate having back again.

I understand my initial comment makes it seem like I never carry a wallet true - which is not true - and liking Google Wallet is akin to saying “but I just like smoking” (in this community).

It’s great that you don’t find it as convenient, which means the trade off isn’t as substantial for you. However for my 5 days a week commuting it’s a load off.

No one said it did? It’s a service that I find great value in, and one that I had given up for a time and enjoy having access to again.

I ran graphene on a Pixel 4A 5G for a while until that phone inexplicably died.

I now have a Pixel 8 Pro, and I haven’t installed Graphene on it. Why? Google wallet.

That shit is so convenient. That I can leave my own wallet at home and tap to get on transit, tap my work’s virtual credit card, etc is holding me back from a second install.

What does “picked the bear” mean?

I just migrated away from Tuta after trying the service for a year. I like it well enough, but it presented too many frustrations to be a service to pay for.

1. While they have labels (yay!) their inbox rules cannot apply labels so you are stuck manually tagging everything (boo!) - and the UI for manually tagging could use improvement.
2. Mobile (Android) notifications stop working frequently.
3. While they integrate their contacts in to the Android contact list, they refuse to integrate their calendar with the Android system calendar - meaning I cannot pull a consolidated list of calendar events in to my launcher, and am stuck using their calendar application (which could use a lot of improvement).
4. If you set a calendar event reminder, and then change the time of the event, the reminder will go off at the original event time (or 15/30 minutes before, whatever you set it to).
5. Long refreshes when loading the inbox. Navigating back to the application often has the server disconnected, then you have to wait a spell for it to reconnect so you can carry on.

After searching around and checking purelymail, infomaniak, mailbox.org, mxroute, migadu, zoho, etc. I landed on fastmail (with my own domain) predominantly because of their implementation of labels (super slick). Their mobile app and desktop applications are also very slick. Contacts/calendar sync in to the Android System is done through DavX, but I also have it syncing to my Nextcloud instance. It’s a more expensive solution than the others, but labels (tags/categories) are such an important part of my workflow that there aren’t a lot of options unless I wanted to go back to M365/Google Workspace.

If I was to give up labels, I’d probably go with infomaniak or mailbox.org. Both of their offerings were slick and the price was right.
