This is the move. When I installed CachyOS (a year ago today actually), I set up a dual boot - figured it’d be good to have the “backup plan” instead of jumping right into it. I found myself going back a few times for various odds and ends. Over time I found I’d been flipping back to it less and less, I think the last time I actually used it was for a stupid gacha game that I finally put down for good.
Finally got to the point where I just nuked the windows partition to free up some space. and looking back I really only kept it around in the early days because I didn’t feel confident yet. (Though I do wish I had the forethought to arrange the partitions in a logical way because I couldn’t actually extend my cachyos partition to the left, so I just opted to add it to the btrfs pool instead, it works I guess).
We just got a new car, first “modern” one I’ve had basically ever, and this has been one of my biggest concerns since we got it, but there really don’t seem to be any straightforward solutions yet.
My wife was mentioning the other day that if something happened to me she’d have absolutely no idea how to work any of this shit and that convinced me to actually start documenting it LMAO
Good time to start doing it too. Aside from setting up a NAS this weekend and figuring out an audiobook solution (not something I’ve ever dabbled with but I really should start reading some communist theory), I’ve got this project right where I want it for a long while.
If you have a VPS, consider setting up either Headscale or Netbird if you don’t want to use any of Tailscale’s built-in auth methods (with all necessary security precautions taken of course). If that’s not an option I’d suggest going back to Wireguard for sure.
