Peanut gallery here but I have a couple questions about IP cameras and what the recommended setup exactly looks like. If you or someone else could answer them it would be greatly appreciated.

1. You were saying in your first comment that you would recommend getting one of the infamous 10 year old servers with redundant power supplies specifically for this. On said server:

   a. How much RAM would you recommend to start? Most of those servers still use DDR3/4 so it shouldn’t be too god awfully expensive.

   b. What OS setup would you recommend? Ubuntu Server/CLI Debian, or something like adding the server to a Proxmox cluster and running a resource-heavy VM with GPU and HDD pass through?

2. As far as the client end of the monitoring stack, would you recommend a Raspberry Pi with a cheap-ish monitor that acts as a dedicated client for this, or an open port or firewall rule which allows a web client to be accessible via the rest of your LAN?

In my understanding the framework for the modern public school system (K-12) in the US was developed near the turn of the 20^th century to basically be a school-factory pipeline, which is why we see the strict bell structure of classes and lunch as well as beginning/end of day, and the entirely authoritarian approach of teachers who take the attitude of “Don’t do that because I said so” instead of actually showing and teaching the students why they should behave and meeting them where they’re at, and then are surprised when students continue to misbehave and blame overworked parents for their kids’ bad behavior when the system we live under requires parents of school-age children to be absent for the majority of their children’s childhood just to put food on the table and keep a roof over their head. More recently with the rise of the prison-industrial complex public schools in lower-income areas have also become a sort of school-prison pipeline, especially for minority students.

As far as colleges and universities, this is absolutely correct. Most of the students now that go through any college but especially community colleges and such will sadly never get a job in the field that they’re studying for, and will end up in the service sector, which actually is what happened to me.

China is an authoritarian vision of a future no one wants.

Is it? They have less intense surveillance than us, they have social healthcare and housing and as a whole a robust social safety net, they’ve eliminated extreme poverty for their billion citizens, and their economy is making a distinct green transition and is outpacing the entire rest of the world. They have long term sustainability, which is more than I can say of any western nation.

They really don’t.

I have been saying for a couple years now that there’s a distinct lack of critical thinking here in the US, and it’s mostly due to our education system being built to teach you to be compliant and get you used to a strict schedule with a bell, much like at old factory jobs.

The point isn’t to create jobs, the point isn’t to innovate, the point is to make as much profit as possible.

Also, labor is what creates that profit in the first place. Capital is mixed with labor to create more capital. People like musk and all of the other oligarchs can only have their wealth as a result of exploitation of the labor of the working class.

Israel has always been and will always be a means of destabilization of the region for the US. Yes, the US uses Israel as a launching pad and such, but mostly the US wants all of the nations in the middle east to be unstable at the least and failed states at the most so they can be more easily controlled and so the US can send in their corporations to extract the abundant resources which are under the ground that they stand on.

This is actually a pretty good and reasonable idea.

Good, maybe more people should start doing this.

Also, maybe we should start considering this and related options for areas where city/state governments have banned flock or ended their contracts, since they all seem to want to pass responsibility for removal to flock itself like it’s a hot potato!
