Wages have also mostly not kept up with inflation that went nuts starting around Covid times. Some companies have been doing raises, but a lot haven’t been able to keep up with inflation.

I’m glad my farm is a side business and not my main one. Also glad that I bought fertilizer when I first heard about Iran being struck. Prices are definitely up here (Japan) for a lot of our inputs.
It’s also worth pointing out that self defense in Japanese law only covers getting out of the situation. If someone hits you and you hit them back instead of getting out of the situation, you’ve just gone from a victim to a participant in a fight.
I’ll open a bottle of something nice when this happens, along with doing a happy dance, but I think that cork is staying put for now.

I was originally thinking of grabbing parts as they go on sale finally (this PC is from 2018ish, I think, and I guess I could upgrade some bits), but I think I’m just going to wait and get a laptop. In part because I do less gaming, the gaming is less intense, and I’m thinking about trying to spend part of the year living outside of Japan which would make the logistics of shipping a heavy full tower around (or even mid if I downsized) just too much of a headache. Still not 100% sure, though.

Chinese ambassador Zheng Zeguang will be summoned by the Foreign Office after the two men ** were found** guilty.
The tenses in this sentence are hurting my brain.

Countries need to get balls to hold these companies to account and protect their workers. Even in Japan, layoffs can trigger all sorts of consequences for the company and our rights here are very hit or miss.

I work in Japan and get paid in yen so that seems unlikely. Indeed. I am basically at the median us salary with the exchange rate. I’ve bought two phones in the last 11 years (and won’t replace my pixel 6 until it dies). I also work two jobs.

Xennial here. I got rid of most social media years ago (FB, twitter, etc.) and never signed up for a lot of others. I’m replacing my google pixel watch with a pebble. I’m open to ditching my android google phone as well once something works properly with all the Japanese government and banking services. Thinking about how to degoogle.
It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows back in the '80s and '90s, but I definitely feel like we should take back some of our balance, security, and comfort (though streaming and recording video can stay).
Except when looking for a new job and now so are 8k other people :/
