Nah, adobe essentially locked people out of their accounts and all their cloud storage unless they agreed to let them use their content to train their AI. Also they are pushing an AI which kinda helps unemploy everyone who uses their products. They are switching to a B2B model and shitting on the artists. That’s the ins and outs of the video.

2·20 hours agoAs someone who’s watched this channel for a while. This is a pretty big milestone. I for one have noticed the big influx of new users asking newbie questions. Also notable is PewDiePie’s pretty in-depth shift to linux. Not only did he switch but he jumped pretty far into what would be expert mode and clearly emphasized what a game changer it can be.

Ask Science@lemmy.world•Maybe wrong community. But how does the leap from video games to reality happen in the body? Is it like when you are dreaming and wakeup? More insideEnglish
6·20 hours agoIn the 1700’s when printing and books became more ubiquitous critics, doctors, and religious leaders panicked. They diagnosed heavy reading as a physical and mental illness, calling it “reading rage,” “reading fever,” “reading mania,” or “reading lust”.
Socrates was deeply concerned that relying on the new technology of the written word would make people mentally lazy and ruin their memory.
Juvanoia and general human behavior is very very old. All of our behaviors today we’ve had for millennia upon millennia. As the old saying goes, there’s nothing new under the sun. Also the world has been ending since the beginning. The first Pope Saint Peter was sure the rapture was very near and within his lifetime.

13·21 hours agoThere is no established, scientific link between playing violent video games and committing violent crimes. This really isn’t a science question.
As for politics, there’s a precedent for this going back to the proliferation of books, then radio, tv, music, movies, really every single last form of media has had the “it’s poisoning our kids or the population” propaganda. You also see similar fearmongering about many other things, typically minority groups but it can be any change in society.
Fear and hatred gets easy votes, people’s rational minds struggle to question anything when they feel afraid or angry. It’s also why modern news is built around our very animalistic fear and anger responses, it is very profitable. Similarly it’s why rage bait is a fundamental aspect of most major platforms and algorithms.

1·1 day agoIt’s been a while but eventually this the original idea was users would get like 100 karma automatically and then could offer X amount for help and it would be granted when help was given and then that person who earned the karma could themselves have more karma to offer possibly for a more difficult task.

5·1 day agoI think we might have a similar work background. Mechatronics is so much fun. To do a little of everything, CAD, 3D printing, PCB design, soldering, wood working, welding, programming and then have something functional that didn’t exist before is so enjoyable. Same with upcycling like what you’re saying. Seems like something that could be a feature added onto select libraries as they are fundamentally for the philanthropic sharing of knowledge.
A friend in college had an idea for a website like this kind of centered around skill sharing aka people would post skills or ask for help and trade work to better their community. Example being someone’s bike is broken and then someone who is handy helps them and they get the “karma” on the website.

2·2 days agoThat’s a fair additive although it can be difficult to define the boundaries. Particularly tech can have a far reaching influence and arguably global influence these days. If the scope of the policy is narrow then I can imagine that being functional, if the scope is potentially global then that may become an issue.

3·2 days agoCalling democracy mob rule is really old. I would at least prefer representatives to be scientists or otherwise the most informed on the subject and policies they are deciding on. I would also prefer all policies to be tested to see if they actually create their desired outcomes. I would prefer the desired outcome to always be increasing human and environmental wellbeing.

2·2 days agoHe’s not the first but I was thinking about that. I can’t remember the critic but early on in the American experiment someone described it as mob rule.
Similar but I would prefer a representative democracy but where the representatives need to be national experts on what they are deciding. So for instance if it’s medicine then the representatives need to be physicians and medical scientists, and previous heads of hospitals. If it’s dealing with the environment then the representatives need to be environmental scientists, civic engineers, and so on. Aka have the most informed people for that which you are trying to make decisions. Even better, have their policies reviewed by a body of their peers the same way scientific publishing works to get a measure on how good or bad their ideas are. Even better, test their ideas when they’ve been implemented to see if they’re actually working.

706·3 days agoThat’s why democracy is also known as being ruled by the hordes of idiots. It’s amazing when people are well informed on what they are voting on, the problem is that’s never happened in mass and never will. People will vote based on their feelings or just straight up not at all.
If you want system usages to be as low as possible you can skip a GUI all together, just use viu, mpv, w3m and such or you can look into projects like DSL (damn small Linux) and puppy Linux. If you’re trying to maintain a mostly normal experience you can look into efficiencies in compiling your kernel and software a la Gentoo.
The most valuable resource on this earth isn’t gold, diamonds, or platinum, it’s minds. With enough control over enough minds one can control the world, they can get all the gold, and oil they want.

Bend? Yup makes sense…
