  • To a certain extent, yes. But realistically the people making the decisions? They don’t actually care about subjugating women in any real sense. Most of this is just cynical plays to cement their own power using women as the political football. If it was another group that was identified as the obstacle, then they wouldn’t be doing nearly this level of stuff against women.

These moves are aimed at enforcing a demographic shift among women that will trend towards the Republicans. By attacking things like IVF, Abortion, Contraception, you take away the ability of women to wait to start a family, and to start a family late. This ends up pressuring them to start that family early if they ever want to have one. If they have to start their family early, then they can’t easily pursue higher education or focus on their careers, which are two of the biggest demographic indicators that tend to correlate with women who vote against the Republicans. Obviously this won’t be exactly what happens with every young woman affected by these pressures, but across a whole population? It will work to swell the demographics that support Republicans. When the margins that decide American elections are as thin as they have been in recent decades, they’re gambling that it will be enough to cement their power when combined with their efforts at voter suppression.
