10$ on 21 nuggets isn’t a victory, it’s cutting your losses.

1·1 month agoI don’t dispute that at all. What I was pointing out is that AAA is not some sort of solution, as it was implied.
Silly metric conversions, everyone just calls it 14-inch shells.
But now that Walmart doesn’t have them how am I gonna supply my King George V-class battleships?

221·1 month agoSorry, let me point out one thing: that’s a load of crap.
The only thing I agree with is that AAA studios have the funds to make huge projects, while indie devs usually will not.
However, their business model is built around developers being treated as an expendable workforce, and offers little if any job security at all, almost all mass layoffs in tech up until recently were by AAA studios.
Especially entry level jobs, including Q&A folk, they’re the first to go once a project is complete, if they were even hired in the first place and not just contractors. Zero job security.
And if you think they provide stability from a family time perspective, you mustn’t have heard about the “crunch”, the ridiculous number of mandatory overtime, or the high burnout rate.
AAA is cancer.

World News@quokk.au•Why a far-right party's victory in Germany is a 'serious moment in Europe'
4·1 month agoThere’s a lot of that to go around, for sure.
Politicians have been relying on the “surely no sane person would vote for them” for way too long, instead of cutting down the capitalist overlords that rule the planet.
Guess what, looks like with enough money and astroturfing you can get anyone elected, and now we’re all fucked.
Everything the Dems attack seems to get elected, so there’s hope yet.

2·3 months agoNever messed with arduinos specifically, but I’ve built a few projects throught the years with ESPs, those things are dirt cheap and very fun to work with! Nothing with motors though - mostly attaching them to sensors and batteries to collect data, or control lighting (LED/RGB strips, etc).
There’s just *way * too many interesting things in the world, and so little free time! It’s a tragedy really… :)
Hope you can find the time and life conditions to embrace the projects you love. Have a great day!

1·3 months agoYou’re doing it wrong brother, if you’re doing it IRL that’s work, good riddance…
But for real, that’s really cool! You hooked up a motor and photo resistors to a controller you’ve programmed? Bonkers. Do you have any write up about it? super curious about how you did it.

1·3 months agoCould you live without learning a made-up assembly-like programing language just so you can have your solar panels track the sun, only to find out you know very little about “azimuth” and “elevation” and now your potatoes aren’t growing because you can’t power that grow light.
I mean, you could, but are you even living at that point?
Did you mention how fun it is to find out you got your gaseous fuel stoichiometry wrong? It’s a blast.

Unrelated, but anyone deep enough in the comments to read this, you might consider checking out the game Stationeers - a brutally complex base/space station/colony building game that will eat years of your life if you let it, stay away. Huge fun.

Also, with all that surface area on panels, I feel like there’s a way of having them double as heat radiators - one side captures energy, the other radiates it out…

5·3 months agoIn known recent corruption cases, the death sentence has been applied when sums exceeding 1 billion yuan ($147.24 million) were involved. In 2024, Li Jianping, an official in the Inner Mongolia region, was executed after being found guilty in a case involving more than 3 billion yuan.
(From Reuters, Bloomberg is paywalled).
America, any billionaires around?
Hahaha.

Technology@lemmy.world•🇪🇺 EU Court confirms €4.1bn Google fine - largest antitrust penalty ever imposed by the EU CommissionEnglish
14·3 months agoGoogle was found to have paid manufacturers and telecoms to have Google search and Chrome pre-installed, and further enforced this by blocking access to its Play Store if they didn’t comply. Finally, it prohibited manufacturers from offering other versions of Android, again by threatening to ban access to its apps.
The only reason Apple isn’t also fined here is that they build and sell their own hardware, so they don’t have to force anyone to play by their rules - because they’re the only ones on the field…
Apple has been fined several times for abuse of dominant position though, and will surely be fined again since they continue to do it and profit massively from it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Streaming services’ obnoxiously loud ads become illegal on July 1 in CaliforniaEnglish
7·4 months agoTV ads are acceptable, they are strictly limited to -24 LUFS. Streaming media like YouTube enforces -14 LUFS.
That’s 10 decibels, it’s twice as loud.
And that’s just the hard cutoff.
While YouTube will bring down the volume automatically (say, if you upload something with -9 LUFS, it will bring it down to -14), it doesn’t scale up.
So maybe a conscious creator is uploading at -24, then BOOM ad at -14 and your ears start to bleed. This law aims to fix that, by forcing the ads to be at the same volume of the content that’s playing, instead of just being able to blast at full volume.

United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•Rabbi Poupko isnt' amused with JD Vance
3·4 months agoAnd that the Americans are servants to their masters.

Ukraine needs a few more long range missiles so they can blow up those refineries and fuel depos.
Freezing Russians and paralyzed front lines because of lack of fuel and getting ground down to mulch, while Putin sells off diesel to the Americans might just add that extra straw to the camel’s back.
It’s unlikely, but crazier things have happened.
