Technology@lemmy.world•What your phone knows could help scientists understand your health: A new open-source platform aims to help health researchers examine how digital interactions influence physical and mental health.English
4·16 days agoThe main thing my phone knows about me is that I’m good at setting it down at 6:30am and forgetting it exists until 10:30pm. And from the dresser I usually leave it on, it can probably hear how often the toilet flushes in our house.
So without their feathers they look like they act?
Hobbit rockets never leave the ground. They use pipe-weed as fuel and, by T plus 60 of any launch, the engineers are all giggling on the launch pad eating funions as a quick post-elevenses snack.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How do you effectively backup your high capacity (20+ TB) local NAS?English
5·24 days agoLike others, I have a 2 tier system.
About 2TB of my (Synology) NAS is critical files. Those get sent via Hyperbackup to cloud storage on at least a weekly basis, some daily. I have them broken up into multiple tasks with staggered schedules so it never has much to do on any given day.
The other 16TB I have get sync’d (again with hyperbackup, but not a scheduled backup task) to a 20TB external drive roughly once per quarter. Then that drive lives on the closet of a family member.

Technology@lemmy.world•After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next YearEnglish
0·2 years agoAll the streamers suck; plus Spotify definitely sucks the most and it has the most subscribers. So I do my best to support artists I love by buying their albums in some physical form (vinyl if possible because it encourages active listening), t-shirts when I need a t-shirt, fan clubs, etc. It’s all I can think to do.

We must be close to the sort of flexible eink display that will finally make Rorschach’s mask a thing.
