I was wondering the same, the first time I heard about his ‘escort service’ was now through the stopping-of-it news.
First of all, the US can’t reliably take down entire volleys of missiles and drones, even if our fancy anti missiles were not running out, that they cost millions each is here nor there. Second, the insurance companies for these big ships will cut their policies if they took the US up on this offer.

Iran also hit infrastructure on the port of al-fujayrah, in the gulf of Oman, the go around the UAE has used to bypass the straits to a degree. Iran is now claiming control of the gulf of Oman as well.
