Melinda Tankard Reist, of Collective Shout, condemned TikTok as “an industrial-scale digital pimp funnelling girls into the sex industry”. She said: “It is our view that young women and girls deserve to be protected from a predatory industry grooming them to be producers of explicit content.”

Piece of shit censorship organization whose founder opposes women’s bodily autonomy says what?

As someone who’s mainly friends with sex workers, from dancers to full service, here’s the same reasoning I’ve heard over and over again:

When you’re going to be sexualised, objectified and assaulted no matter what you do you might as well get paid for it.

But blaming TikTok is easier than acknowledging systemic misogyny, I guess.

acknowledging systemic misogyny sounds like a lot of work and it might make me feel bad about something I feel good about right now, so you’re the actual literal devil for proposing it.

maybe if we had an economy that actually worked for everyone, girls wouldn’t feel so pressured to become sex workers?

…or we can just do nothing to support them while dehumanizing them when they turn to sex work, okay yeah sure

How many times is this going to happen before we cut this cancer from the internet?
