Huh. This isn’t the first study I have seen with this conclusion. I can see why it would piss off Lemmy immediately, but beyond that knee-jerk reaction, can anyone actually poke any holes in it? It doesn’t seem to be politically motivated and looks sound from what I can parse.

    Conclusion

Severe psychiatric morbidity is common among gender-referred adolescents and appears to be more prevalent in those referred after the recent surge in referrals. Psychiatric needs do not subside after medical gender reassignment.

Seems like being trans and existing in society would give people all kinds of psychiatric problems, all of which don’t go away when you get gender affirming surgery.

I am glad they are able to get the care they need and not be dead by their own hand.

Honestly, this conclusion makes perfect sense. If you’ve got gender dysphoria, that would produce depression, anxiety, etc. In other words, psychological morbidity. 2 years after starting the process of gender reassignment, you’re still not where you want to be (it’s a long process), but now you have to deal with no longer presenting as a cis person, and so you’ve got added societal pressure increasing depression and anxiety. It’s sort of a “no shit” conclusion, but it’s one that would be easily touted by bigots as the reason why they think “trans people” shouldn’t exist.

So the struggle isn’t over even after reassignment. No. Fucking. Shit.
