Among decided and leaning voters, the BC Conservatives lead the BC NDP by just under 8 points, 44.7% to 37.2% with the Green at 11.2%, One BC at 5.7% and Centre BC Party at 1.1% rounding out the field.

Looks like malpractice.

Im probably in the minority here but will be voting Con due to the promised tax hikes.

Sorry, NDP. I voted for you last time. You cant just bankrupt the province, threaten income tax hikes, PST inclusions, and not expect normal left-leaners to say anything.

Conservatives have shown themselves incredibly poor fiscal stewards across Canada. When they say they run government like a business, it is more like in a “make numbers look rosy this quarter, next quarter is someone else’s problem” way, as opposed to a business that intends to last into the long term. My biggest concern is that the province’s assets will be sold off by the BC Cons to pretend the budget hole is filled in whatever year they feel like they need to pretend they are fiscally responsible.

You can’t help people with capitalism, you’ll always be at the mercy of the capitalists and end up hurting the workers.

It’s fun to envision the hokey reason the cons will dream up to reduce services for the normal people. Looks like it’s their old standby: “taxes too high” and “gov too big”.

Yeah. Let’s all be Alberta, when we could be Sweden or Denmark.

I was interested in this comparison so I did a small amount of research on total cost of living in Vancouver vs Stockholm Sweden for a high earner like a doctor, lawyer @$330k CAD with a modest 3 bedroom home (townhouse) along with the proposed NDP tax increases. This is the conclusion:

        • You save more cash in Stockholm:Despite losing an extra $1,717 CAD every single month to Swedish income taxes, the structural sanity of the Swedish housing market saves you $3,091 CAD a month in raw mortgage math. This leaves you with roughly $1,380 CAD more surplus cash per month in Stockholm.
        • The Equity Difference: In Vancouver, you are building equity on a larger asset ($1.27M vs $912k), but you are heavily exposed to interest rate volatility. If rates jump 1% at renewal in Canada, your budget breaks. In Sweden, your exposure is mitigated by the interest tax write-off.

As much as it pains me to be a single issue voter I have to vote conservative, every other party has an issue with firearms and intends to criminalize me for something I purchased legally and only got to use once before being turned into a safe-queen.

Shitty because I share quite a lot of liberal values, I just cant justify voting for a party that for the last 6 years has lied to Canadians claiming folks who legally own firearms are the cause to the increase in firearm related crime.

Hell not to mention our piss poor self defence laws.

Care to elaborate which comments I’ve made, that don’t involve firearms, that make you believe I have more in common with conservatives?

I’ve only gone a week back on my comment history and for the most part all I talk about on here is Linux, Networking perhaps the occasional Meme and Firearms.

I mean, this is a provincial election. I don’t think provinces really have that much control over gun policy? That’s more federal.

While you’re correct that firearm policies & the Canadian Firearms Program is associated more closely with the federal government opposed to individual provinces however, the sale of goods and services and property rights have historically been left up to the provinces to decide, it’s unusual for the federal government to outright prohibit thousands of items that have been 1) approved by the RCMP and 2) for sale in this country for decades without registration (except in Quebec, all firearms must be registered upon sale).

Saskatchewan found a nifty loop-hole in the firearms act, essentially government employees can posses prohibited firearm so long as the province approves it, so Saskatchewan appointed a firearms commissioner who’s job is to hire firearms owners, firearms owners enter an agreement with Saskatchewan government that they will sell their firearm to the federal government after they receive what is to be fair market value, this allows firearms owners to hold onto their firearms indefinitely until the federal government pays them for what it’s actually worth.

So you are mad the provincial NDP didn’t force through a loophole like Saskatchewan did? Which probably comes with a lot of liability and extra expenditures for new regulatory processes, forms, paperwork, redtape, etc.

Are you referring to the Firearm Violence Prevention Act? AFAICT the only way any legal and responsible gun owner would become a criminal under this legislation is if they’re bringing an emotional support gun to school/church/daycare.

Regardless do you care to elaborate?

I do have concerns about governments disarming the populace. At the same time I like living in a society where lethal force isn’t omnipresent.
