Every war and genocide has been done by people following a ideology blindly. Religion, communism, racism, conservative does not count toward all these ideologies so I wouldn’t say your message is true.
The difference between progressive and conservative is indeed empathy. But it stop short at who you think the ennemies are. If you are ready to ignore (or of course kill, emprison etc) all people that say they are from an ideology, you are not showing empathy.
The ideology is extrem. The people following it have different reason and degree of following the ideology. All of them aren’t extrem. Just like you have to explain to conservatives that not all x minorities are dangerous and need to be forcibly removed.
