Any recommendations for free or inexpensive place?
Places I can think of:
Coffee shops
Breweries and pubs
Libraries
Parks
Small scale music concerts
Axe throwing
Malls
University campuses
spoiler alert: You’re in one.
Arguably this is a “first place” since I almost always access it while at home.
Do you discuss only with family members on Lemmy?
According to the article, this is a Virtual Third Place. IMHO it’s not the same as a physical place. I’ve lived in places where I had third places, and now I live in a place where I don’t, and the difference is stark.
