Devil’s advocate:

Tons of patents are registered for protection and/or licensing options even if the company doesn’t end up using them. Sony has some patents with similar terribleness they’ve never implemented in products.

But this is Microslop, so they’ll implement it extremely heavy handed, and then after the inevitable backlash, they’ll claim it was unexpected and pull back some. But we will still end up with some bullshit.
