      Early on?

Settler colonialism is an inherently fascist ideology, so that political lean was available very early on in Canadian history and continued for a long time. It still exists but to a much lesser extent than before.

During and after world war 2, as a Canadian historian once said, the Canadian government was more willing to allow Nazis to come into Canada because they knew they weren’t Jewish or Communist.

Now it’s more about right-wing populism that is turning more idiotic by the day and ramping up culture wars while ignoring the actual issues (this isn’t unique to Canada, US, or anywhere else). But this means that white supremacist groups are gaining some more traction. On top of that, the US is heavily invested (politically and financially) in advancing the right-wing politicians in Canada and also the white supremacists.

But that’s just how I see it. Someone else might have a different view.
