The company I work for routinely does work for a non-profit that was impacted by this.

The fallout of this action for them was disastrous, and it’s likely a few people died as a result of it. This particular non-profit worked on getting HIV-medication to patients in remote areas and living in extreme poverty. They lost years of records and vital information needed to help people. A lot of it was able to be pieced together ad-hoc, but Microsoft was of zero help.

From talking with them, they project that this one act by Microsoft, globally, has cost hundreds of not thousands of lives due to it impacting the operations of organizations like them.

The people responsible have blood on their hands, and as usual there will be no repercussions.
