I don’t know what possessed you to reply this to my specific comment or in what view you intend for it to be taken.

Are you saying the Canadian people walked as far into the same machine as they did but are smart enough to run out of the slaughterhouse at the sights and sounds of the cow ahead being slaughtered for…?

    What are you saying?

You have a President that does impulsive things and makes big declarations. You like that because you think that’s how the world works.

It takes time to disentangle from the US. So how do you buy time? You negotiate. You don’t broadcast to your adversaries every move before you do it.

Americans don’t know what’s happening because they’re in the forest. You can only see the trees immediately around you. From a distance you can see a lot more. Americans believe in America, while Canadians see it for what it really is.

The USA was founded by slave masters who wrote pretty words about freedom and equality while actually wanting to preserve slavery, pay less taxes, and kill indigenous people and take their land.

Canada was founded on the principle that we all have to work together or the Americans will invade us.

Some of us have ancestors who came to Canada as refugees, fleeing from political oppression during the American revolution. Americans believe their revolution was a clean revolution and it was all about “freedom”. That’s what Americans are taught in school. We in Canada know better.

We know what America is better than Americans. It seemed like after WWII and the Civil Rights movement, the US might have changed. But Trump is just moving the US to be what it wants to be. A bunch of racist, narcissistic, violent assholes.

All true. None of which applies to me, the person who has no trouble seeing the forest, whose background and makeup you have no idea of.

Don’t pervert my comment with your diatribe, there’s a button to start your own chain, as our messages while not at cross purposes, are not the fucking same.

If you’ll excuse me, I’ll be busy continue to hope your country does the right fucking thing for once instead of taking more of my ancestors on starlight tours, and I’ll wave over from near across one of the fucking lakes.

Ok, so you’re just here to promote hatred of Canada.

I’ll be over here making Canada better while you do that.

I don’t think you can read. Work on that first. Literacy is the cornerstone of civilization, the white man told my people, before there was a Canada or an America, in these lands.

Canada is also founded on the principle that the natives can go fuck themselves. Remember that one of the very first acts of confederation was to send the RCMP to put down the Riel rebellion, despite their very legitimate grievances. The Metis are still suffering.

        Otherwise, agreed.

Confederation was in 1867, the Riel Rebellions were in 1885. Kinda a stretch to claim Canada was founded because they planned to do something horrible 18 years later.

There are indeed some very terrible things that happened in the past and John A. McDonald was a terrible guy. There’s no need for historical revisionism to make that point.

Ah, yeah, I’m probably confusing it with the completion of the CPR. One of the reasons that western provinces wanted to join, and it was used to send troops west.

            It’s all a bit fuzzy.

Yeah they wanted to build railways pretty early on. BC made it a condition of joining. Of course there’s nothing wrong with building infrastructure. What was very wrong was starving indigenous people off their land to make way for the railroad. But that happened in the early 1880s. At the time of Confederation in 1867 this sort of thing couldn’t have been considered since at that time since it wouldn’t be possible to starve indigenous people off their land since there were still Bison around then.

History often gets simplified and condensed. If it was over a hundred years ago things that were decades apart seem like they all happened at the same time. People were generally terrible back then. The opposition party in McDonald’s time did criticize him for starving indigenous people. Not for doing it, but because they said he wasn’t doing it enough.

I don’t go for the “he was of his time” excuse though. The John A. McDonald did terrible things. But should we define this country by the actions of terrible politicians?

For someone so clearly educated, your conceptual blindspot is… Interesting.

As you enjoy your aerial view of the forest and marvel at the patterns, take note not to mistake the antics of the little people with the Creator’s great spirit guidance.

I think you’re confusing critical thinking with a blindspot. I’m able to separate out abstract concepts and don’t need categorize everything as good or evil. Most things are in a grey area in between.

The concept of Canada that’s continuously progressed from people voting in a democratic system is good. I don’t see that being synonymous with a statue of John A MacDonald or a picture of him being on the 10 dollar bill, because that’s silly. I also don’t see as being synonymous with atrocities committed by John A. MacDonald. Being able to separate things doesn’t mean someone is blind to those things.

In fact I’d say people that throw a bunch of things into a single bucket and mix it all up are blind to many positives and potential future progress. It’s hard to move forward when you’re always looking backwards. Especially if when you look backwards and only have some very fuzzy vibes about the past. It’s best to separate good works from the bad deeds so you can continue the good works and make effort to prevent bad deeds from occurring again.

Also, I’m not interested in any religion that believes in belittling people.

Critical thinking involves listening and reasoning, when presented with external information. You literally hyper-lane focus on the 30% percent that is put before you, and then diagonal read into a 70% that isn’t there.

I am not selling you a religion, I am being poignant. There was a working system for civilization in place before the Dutch and the French came over, and the English came sniffing after them. A system that still can be adapted and scales up, but there’s this whole other thing in the way, with its epicenter in this continent.

Misunderstand my point all you want, at least you’re stumbling towards a better path instead of stumbling the other way, and that is enough.
