I think it’s important not to let right-wing populist rhetoric with its constant baseless accusations and false labelling take over. (True) conservatives and those on the left need to not let them take away words or redefine meanings. We should be able to say and probably should say more things like “I’m a patriot, that’s why I don’t want fascists taking over this country” or “I’m not a communist or leftist or activist, you Nazi, I’m simply pro constitution and pro basic rights”. Not literally that but you get the point. Rhetoric counters need to be more resolute. If you let them label you activist or communist or “not for your country” despite you being maybe centrist, democrat, pro constitution and pro basic rights, you’ve already given them way too much of a rhetoric advantage.
