I’m 40. I haven’t found full time work in a year. I might have to join. I don’t want to lose my house. Nobody will miss me if I die overseas.

I don’t want to hurt anyone. I’m hungry and I may be homeless soon. What’s the point of being moral if nobody will help me when I’m at rock bottom?

People die on the streets everyday in America. It’s a brutal death and your mental health deteriorates fast. Our country is cruel. If you don’t understand that you come from privilege

SHUT THE FUCK UP about privilege when you’re literally trying to justify slaughtering people in much, much poorer countries. Orders of magnitude more people in the countries America targets experience a life far worse than the worst life in America, because of America. You don’t get to kill other people to feed yourself. Jesus fucking Christ.

Like it or not these huge issues with inequality in our country force people to make these decisions. These are the facts. Lack of healthcare, job opportunities and engineered poverty force people into the military. I don’t know your situation but I do know a lot of people from deeply impoverished areas join. For example a lot of Puerto Rican’s join because poverty has been engineered in their colony partially for this purpose. These are just cold hard facts

Being completely passive and cold and ignoring the suffering of those around you is still better than actively inflicting suffering.

I’m hungry and I may be homeless soon.

So you’re okay with inflicting that same suffering and much worse on other people in countries already with a much lower quality of life than you to escape that fate yourself?

I hope you can find something, man. No money’s worth dying in a war for this regime but that’s easy to say. Maybe something entry level in business or something? Most of them train on the job and just having any degree or experience at all can help. I’m sorry the tech industry’s so awful

I’ve been applying to entry level jobs for months. I was a frontend developer and designer with ten years experience. I now have a PMP, PMI-ACP, and PSM I certifications. I have a resume with a high ATS score. I’ve only been met with silence from jobs. The only work I’ve found is working for a grocery store part time. It’s not covering my bills.

My son graduated with a perfect 4.0 in a 5 year accelerated masters degree program in computer science. He got out just in time for the AI bullshit and has gotten exactly one interview and no offers in two years of applying everywhere. I’m so proud of the work he put in and so pissed that he got royally fucked over. If the job market even comes back I’m afraid he won’t be able to compete with fresh graduates with nothing but a big gap in his resume.

I’m in a similar situation as someone about to leave university (also in an accelerated ~5 year Master’s program and just got my Bachelor’s last semester but decided not to continue next semester for financial reasons) and the disconnect between the education system and job market is so bad, I almost feel like college made me stupider. (Might look into PhD programs more though.)

Other concern is that in my current area of specialization I’m now struggling to find jobs that aren’t associated with the MIC or some three-letter agency and I’m starting to wonder if pursuing my interests is digging myself into a trap (or maybe the city I live in just sucks).

States are partnering with schools to offer free welding, truck driving, health education. Maybe yours is one. Apply for emergency public benefits. Catholic charities often will give a grocery gift card. Salvation Army for clothing, possible rent assistance. LHEAP for energy assistance. It’s long, grueling, humiliating process but getting education helps qualify you for public benefits.

Edit: volunteering can help qualify for public assistance and offer training in other skills, but make sure it’s DSS approved.

You wouldn’t consider it without your media-induced sense of invulnerability. Nobody actually wants to die from shrapnel, or get a TBI. That’s the reality of missile and drone warfare. You’re not kicking down families’ doors in Baghdad, Kyle. You either collect debtbux or perish. If you were serious, you wouldn’t be hoping the AoR takes care of it for you. Stop being melodramatic when other people’s lives are at stake. It’s a genocide, not a “dangerous job”. Solipsistic nonsense

There’s quite a few non-murdering job roles in the military. You could ask a recruiter about those opportunities.
