The first release of The Brotherhood is officially out. This is the Architech. It’s still not production tested. But it’s open-access for the first time. Make some graphs, share with your friends, and track your journey across it. Let the wikipedia of pedagogy begin!!

It’s an open-source software that you can use to build obsidian-like knowledge graphs. But unlike obsidian, this is community-built like wikipedia. And it also has git-like forking abilities built in for every graph. All graphs are released under CC BY-SA. Go to our website for more details.

Upcoming features would include -

  1. More workspace features
  2. Complex assessment methods
  3. Work allocation algorithms
  4. Federated hosting
  5. Social hub

Look, all credit to you and your team. Good work.

But could you not have thought of a better potentially less alienating name? (I know a LOT of women coders)

It isn’t about women, OR about coders. The name is more related to the abstract concept of fraternity, solidarity and brotherhood.

Why not sisterhood then? Or solidarityhood? Or something describing the actual nature of the software?

I’m also reluctant of using it thinking about how it might turn off potential female or enby employees.

And the term is strongly associated with the right wing in Germany. The kind that praise a certain Austrian that shot himself in a bunker.

Ah this is very unfortunate to hear. The only thing more disconcerting to realise than having a name copyrighted by someone else, is having it labelled to someone ideologically opposite to you. If it makes you feel better, we are hardcore leftist. The whole brotherhood principle is based on anarchist principle.

I’d really like to evaluate this for my company, I’ll install it asap.

You say “git like forking”, but can you use Git as backend? We use ADOC for documentation and it’d be awesome to have an Obsidian like graph with ASCIIdoc backend or input.

EDIT: please disclose AI usage in a prominent place and link your statement regarding AI, it’s an interesting read.

If you mean to say that you want to keep your graphs in a GitHub repo, you CAN. You can export it anytime (you don’t even have to save it to our database either, we firmly believe in data ownership) and save it on github. However there isn’t a native solution as of yet. Even better, you can host it in your computer with simple docker setup and that gives you full control of privacy.

Also currently, our nodes only store links to documents, but do not store documents themselves. We have plans to implement it in the future of course.

We have “AI-assistance” inside the workspace which simply suggests new nodes based on your current setup. It sends in exactly the data you want it to. And it is completely optional. If you do not wish to use it, simply ignore the button. Read our privacy policy (linked in our website) to know more about it.

No, I meant as backend, so I can edit the things I put on Git with the application itself.

And I didn’t mean that I want to know how to use AI, but this article: https://lemmy.zip/post/64007684 – you go (or rather: some LLM goes) in depth about what AI is and why you use it.

You use AI in development and it should be disclosed upfront to not annoy anyone looking for human made software.
