Per the very first reply on their thread discussing it in their forums, which I linked directly to for the post title:

We’ll NEVER require any verification or identification from the user.

However, what’s gonna happen should the attempts to age-gate the XDG portal screw over alt-init distros like Artix too? My guess is maybe they start blocking regions which force age gating like Arch Linux 32 is doing.

As a newer Linux user I didn’t really give a shit about SystemD until recent news and just learning Poettering’s whole attitude towards Linux in general.

Was going to wait for EndeavourOS to give a statement on age verification, but if it’s going to be implemented as deep as the init system anyway. I should just try Artix so I don’t have the worry at all.

The systemd thing was just a header, I don’t disagree that it is a step towards age verification, but as far as I am concerned, there is no reason to take drastic measures until that header is actually used in the init system. Your earlier idea of determining the distros position I think will be a better metric as the distro is the more likely entity that will try to implement it.

As an aside, I actually like the systemd header since it will essentially standardize the place for age attestation which assuming your distro doesn’t stop you, you could just pipe some bogus birthday into the field. This is of course assuming the init system doesn’t implement the attestation mechanism.
