German state Bavaria has canceled a nearly billion-euro agreement with US tech giant Microsoft to pursue a “sovereign basic workspace” based on open-source software.
Another major institution is moving away from Big Tech. More are expected to follow
You entered a thread where I have to constantly have to explain that it does not save a billion dollars, and you’re surprised that when you didn’t state something that I continued the conversation as is? JFC there’s no point in this.
Who are they going to get to do this cloud storage? European companies. So no they (the government) won’t own it. JFC. So they are still susceptible to price increases JFC.
Small hosting? Small companies tend to be less efficient. JFC.
Where are electricity prices higher? EU or US? US is cheaper. JFC. That goes for cooling too.
Where are land prices higher? EU or US? US is cheaper. JFC.
You think this is all because MS has negotiating essentially monopoly power? They don’t because Amazon and google and facebook are breathing down their neck. The main thing stopping those companies is that MS made Office conveniently tied into cloud. Stop acting like MS has a monopoly so they can just jack prices up however they want.
The only thing they will be saving on is the software (and does not includes software support), and only the parts that they can get open source because there is a fuckton of security and access management software. It’s not just office and windows.
You guys have no clue about business. JFC. No point.
Orrrrrrrrr I’m not cross checking everyone’s username on each new message with each past message. JFC. Annndddd even then, still not something he stated. JFC. And exasperation is not the same as heated. That one’s a lol.
