You get adverts where people drive their cars over beautiful garden chess boards, and up stairs with your smirking face in order to make the woman want sex with you. You get adverts where you pick your kids up from football, actually driving on the pitch behind the goal mouth, and all the kids think you are wonderful. You then drive your stupid fucking car down the middle of a row of tents with people outside, inches from their faces, and they are all wowed at your prowess.
We used to get adverts on telly telling us how to drive safely, now we get adverts imploring us to drive like cunts.
I mean ok, but “impatient drivers driving on the pavement” is like twice as crazy
I’ve seen it quite a lot. Watching a van driving at high speed round a bend on the path in order to go past a queue of traffic is the main reason I bought a dashcam. I’ve seen people mount the pavement next to a crossing outside a school in order to get past a car turning right. If you want to see the worst driving, try riding a bicycle.
Driving seems to be too much for the average person to handle.
I don’t know how or why, but something about doing the school run either creates or attracts some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen in my life. Literally zero awareness or concern for others, including sudden stops, driving in slippers, mounting the pavement, blocking access, failing to indicate, and a general disregard for safety.
If you regularly have to drive during commuting hours, there’s a genuine and striking difference between term time and school holidays.
IMO if you live within a certain distance of the school or a suitable public transport route, driving your kids to school should attract a fine.
Maybe on the fine with exceptions to those children with health conditions. Not fat kids or lazy parents but if a kid is in a wheelchair or walker. Or unstable due to a brain issue. Like handicap parking, go to a doctor and get them to agree that the child can’t safely walk to school and you get a special tag you hang on your rear view mirror.
If you have a child with disabilities such as that, then there’s a strong likelihood they have a blue badge already, and yes, they have every right to park there.
I do to both of those which is why I asked for that exception.
I’d politely disagree on laziness fines, I’ve always done the school run on foot even when it was a half hour walk but it still sets an iffy precedent.
Just this afternoon I witnessed someone doing a spectacularly poor three point turn using someone’s driveway, thereby holding up all the traffic in both directions, having just picked their kids up from school.
In the time it took to carry out that manouvre, they could have just driven around the block.
What’s your arbitrary certain distance that people have to obey whatever their circumstances?
You made. You forced impatient drivers to drive on the pavement! They had no choice! They were impatient the onus is on you, person, for dropping your kid off at school, and not on the person who decided 30s-2minutes of waiting was the end of their day.
Anyway if we weren’t so car centric, stopping in a lane of traffic would barely register as an action, much less an offense.
