Can you just plug a USB HDD into that old Mac and copy the files over using that?

I’m mostly amazed by the roof shelves… They must have reinforced the roof to support the extra weight, or I would think it would have collapsed. Like snow load.
Maybe its a self supported structure not attached to the actual roof?
